West Virginia Sports Betting and iGaming Rise Slightly In July

The midsummer slump for West Virginia’s sports betting and iGaming operators was officially snapped in July, with slight increases in handle for both camps.

In total, retail and legal online sports betting operators in West Virginia took in $20,903,045 in combined wagering handle during July, which represented a 2.3% jump from June’s sum of $20,429,650 in bets taken.

The year-over-year picture for Mountaineer State sportsbooks wasn’t as rosy, with a 16.4% decline from July 2022’s total of $20,429,650.

WV Sports Betting Revenue Up Sharply

Of the nearly $21 million in handle for sports wagers, the vast majority (more than $18 million) came from mobile sports betting apps in West Virginia.

West Virginia’s sports betting revenue ($2,511,985) and taxes ($213,519) were up 53.5% apiece from June’s totals, which came in at $1,636,456 and $139,099, respectively.

As for iGaming, or online casino, West Virginia took in a handle of $321,000,945 during July, which represented a 14.2% jump from June’s sum of $281,125,322.

The news wasn’t so rosy, iGaming wise, when it came to revenue, with West Virginia operators seeing a 3.2% slump month-over-month, from $10,830,060 in June to $10,485,036 during the seventh month of the year.

The state has taken in just under $252 million in West Virginia sports betting handle through seven months of the calendar year, averaging out to around $35.995 million per month.
