Super Bowl LVIII is officially set, and Super Bowl betting will be the biggest single-day wagering event of the year for legal online sportsbooks. The NFC champion San Francisco 49ers face the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs, who are going for two titles in a row, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.
Sports bettors across the country have started their handicapping of the game from every angle possible and of course, the zillion (exaggerated) prop bets that will be offered by legal sportsbooks in states where you can do so.
The two-week time frame also allows illegal opportunities to wager on the game over a variety of ways. States that do have brick-and-mortar sportsbooks as well as legal, regulated U.S. sports betting apps are already getting out in front of the matter. Simply, they are giving people one reminder about illegally wagering on the game: Don’t do it.
One legal wagering state, Connecticut, issued one of those public service announcements on Jan. 26, two days before Sunday’s conference championship games.

Stick To Legal Super Bowl Betting Sites
The state’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) reminded the public that it is illegal to offer sports wagers, including selling Super Bowl “Squares,” without a license in Connecticut.
FanDuel Sportsbook (at Mohegan Sun), DraftKings (Foxwoods Casino) and Fanatics (Connecticut Lottery Corporation – CLC) are the only online platforms where sports wagers are allowed in the state. Both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino also offer retail sports wagering at their casinos.
There are also 10 retail locations that are licensed to offer wagers through their affiliation with the CLC: Arooga’s Grille House & Sports Bar Shelton, Bobby V’s Stamford, Bobby V’s Windsor Locks, Shea’s Manchester, Sports Haven New Haven, Winners Hartford, Winners New Britain, Winners Milford, Winners Waterbury and XL Center Hartford.

Super Bowl Squares Are Illegal Form Of Gambling
Other bars and restaurants may not sell Super Bowl “Squares,” as it is an illegal form of gambling not offered at legitimate NFL betting sites.
“With the NFL playoffs concluding this weekend and the Super Bowl upcoming, we are reminding the public – both businesses and consumers – that it is illegal to offer wagers without a license,” DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli said Friday in a news release. “As always adults who choose to gamble are encouraged to set time and money limits and review the resources and information available if you or someone you know has a gambling problem.”
The DCP also reminded people that anyone looking for resources and support for problems relating to gambling, for themselves or someone else, can call the Connecticut Council on Problem Gaming’s confidential Problem Gambling Helpline at 1(888) 789-7777 or visit www.ccpg.org. Either option is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The DraftKings Sportsbook lists San Francisco as a 1-point and -118 money line favorite over Kansas City (-102) with the game’s over/under total at 47.5 points as of Monday afternoon.
