
The late summer swoon officially impacted Connecticut sports betting and iGaming operators during August, with month-over-month declines in handle for both camps.
In total, Connecticut iGaming operators took in $985,352,680 worth of handle during August, which was down 13.6% from July’s total of $1,140,655,792. On the sports betting side, Connecticut sportsbooks took in a total handle of $91,316,807 in August — down 0.2% from July’s sum of $91,512,897.
As far as revenues were concerned, Connecticut online casinos took in $24,958,553 during August, which actually represented a 10.6% increase from July’s total of $22,559,081. Connecticut legal online sportsbooks, on the other hand, saw their taxable gaming revenues drop 15.5% month-over-month, from $8,836,636 in July to $7,470,338 in August.
Finally, there was also a mixed bag when it came to the state’s share of the iGaming and sportsbook revenues, with a 10.6% jump in iGaming taxes ($4,492,540, from July’s $4,060,634). Sportsbooks in Connecticut, on the other hand, saw their state revenue share drop 15.5%, from $1,215,313 in July to $1,027,171 in August.

Where Connecticut Sportsbooks Stand Through August
Through the first eight calendar months of 2023, Connecticut retail sportsbooks and mobile sports betting apps have taken in a total handle of $974,528,542 — averaging out to $121,816,068 per month. The state’s largest handle this year was in January, when bettors placed $167,673,044 worth of bets. The second-best month was March with a total of $159,997,579.
